Exercise GRAND PRIX. This was the second showing for the Battalion and the residual experience from 1996 paid dividends. The exercise went exactly as planned and culminated in a battalion group exercise at Archers Post. Whilst the opportunities for military training were outstanding, the high-light for most was the adventurous training package. Using his experience of two years as QM to the British Army Training and Liaison Staff Kenya, Major Jim Bain put together a tremendous package which also included a night in a high grade safari lodge. Perhaps the only part of the exercise that did not go to plan was the movement to and from Kenya. As ever the battalion were at the mercy of the Royal Air Force and dates and departure locations changed at the last minute. For the 120 members of the Battalion Group who had to remain in Kenya for a week after the exercise, the majority had the added bonus of five very happy days sunning themselves by the Indian Ocean.
